Mickleham Coles opens at new Botanical Village centre

Botanical Village in Mickleham will bring Coles, 26 specialty stores, a gym, medical centre and childcare to one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing suburbs, ending years of limited local shopping options.

Mickleham families will finally stop trekking to neighbouring suburbs for groceries, with a major new retail hub opening in the coming weeks.

The Botanical Village precinct will bring a Coles supermarket and 26 specialty stores to the fast-growing northern suburb, alongside a gym, pharmacy, medical centre, food outlets and a childcare centre with 142 places.

Spanning about 6000sq m, the development is set to become a one-stop destination for residents who have long relied on nearby Craigieburn and Greenvale for everyday essentials.

The new Coles will also create 75 jobs, including roles for first-time workers, and features an open-front bakery, full-service deli, seafood counter, Click & Collect and home delivery.

CBRE senior centre manager Andrew Gibson said the project had been designed to support the area’s rapid growth and changing needs.

“Botanical Village represents more than just retail convenience, it’s about creating a genuine community hub where locals can shop, connect and access services all in one convenient place,” Mr Gibson said.

“Mickleham is one of Melbourne’s fastest-growing suburbs, and this centre has been designed to serve the everyday needs of families who’ve made this area home.”

Mickleham residents have relied on nearby Craigieburn and Greenvale for groceries, but the new Botanical Village hub will deliver everyday essentials closer to home.

Coles Mickleham store manager Taz Afzal said the supermarket would bring essential services closer to residents.

“This store is about more than groceries, it’s about creating a community hub for Mickleham locals and giving them a convenient one-stop shopping destination closer to home, especially as the area continues to grow,” he said.

Mickleham has emerged as one of Melbourne’s key growth suburbs in recent years, attracting a surge of first-home buyers and young families seeking more space on the city’s fringe.

Mortgage Choice Greenvale broker and local Rebecca Stella said like many outer suburban areas, infrastructure has lagged behind housing development, leaving residents without easy access to basic retail and services.
“With the cost of living, rising petrol prices and uncertainty around interest rates and global conflict, having a local shopping centre will help Mickleham residents save money and avoid travelling as far as they once had to,” Ms Stella said.
“Young families are really doing it tough at the moment, with petrol pushing close to $3 a litre, being able to get the basics without travelling far is a welcome move.”

The opening of Botanical Village is expected to help close that gap, reducing the need for locals to travel further afield while boosting the suburb’s liveability.

A community launch event featuring live music, entertainment and prize giveaways will mark the centre’s grand opening on Saturday, April 11.
