A long-awaited supermarket development on Hobart’s Eastern Shore is inching closer to approval.
The Woolworths anchored development in Lauderdale is in its final stages of receiving development approval from the Clarence City Council, agents say, paving the way for a major retail and economic boost for the area.
The development will feature a 4000sq m full-line supermarket, and 13 specialty shops.
Specialist retail architects 12C conceptualised the precinct’s design, focusing on accessibility, aesthetics and customer satisfaction.
The development will house a mix of tenants specifically aimed at meeting the daily needs and demands of the local community and residents along the South Arm peninsula.
The project is estimated to be a $25m investment, with the precinct estimated to create 150 permanent retail positions upon completion.

City of Clarence Mayor Brendan Blomeley confirmed that Council has received a Development Application for a significant development in Lauderdale.
“We are engaging with the applicant and utility providers to ensure everything is in order for this to then proceed to being publicly advertised,” he said.
“Once the DA is advertised, the community and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to make representations about the proposed development and this will feed into Council’s decision-making process.”

Ray White Commercial Tasmania sales representative Mia Lilley described the project as a milestone development that signals a new chapter for retail choice and convenience in Lauderdale.
“We are looking forward to building a diverse tenancy mix, delivering a shopping experience that is contemporary and highly convenient for the growing local population,” she said.

The site, located at No.438-450 South Arm Rd, was strategically acquired by Woolworths in 2011.
RWC Tasmania partner Claude Alcorso said early off-market interest has been strong.
“Multiple tenancies are pre-committed, demonstrating the confidence in the area, the developer on delivering a standout project, and a need for a new retail hub,” he said.
The Mercury understands that the project has gone to tender for builders.
Construction commencement is estimated for June 2026, with completion expected in mid-2027.
A Woolworths supermarket was pitched for Lauderdale in 2013.
Meanwhile, just around the corner from the proposed Woolworths site, construction is underway on the Lyden Builders mixed-use residential and commercial Ringwood Project.
Offices, a pilates studio, a brewery and cafe will be built alongside homes and visitor accommodation units.
