Melburnians can snag a free breakfast for the next three weeks as global yoghurt giant Chobani opens its first Australian pop-up cafe in the CBD.

The Chobani Cafe has launched on Little Collins Street and will serve 50,000 free yoghurt bowls until Saturday May 2.

Located between Elizabeth and Queen Street, the site is the brand’s first cafe outside of the US. It is modelled on its flagship store in Soho, New York.

Chobani GM of Marketing Ellie Vince told News Corp Australia that the pop-up cafe was designed to bring the product “out of the fridge and into the city”.

“We wanted to take something people already do with Chobani at home – that quick, feel‑good breakfast moment – and turn it into a place you can actually walk into,” Ms Vince said.

“Melbourne made sense on every level. It’s a city that takes its cafes seriously and it’s also where Chobani is proudly made.”

The menu features customisable bowls with options including light Greek yoghurt, no-sugar-added vanilla bean, and a new strawberry protein variety.

Customers can top their free bowls with fresh fruit, granola, superseed crunch, almond butter, raspberry chia compote, coconut or honey.

Since its launch on April 13, Ms Vince said the public response to the cafe has been “genuinely energising”.

“We’ve seen strong foot traffic, great word of mouth, and the kind of social chatter you only get when people feel like they’ve discovered something worth sharing.

“What has stood out most is that people aren’t just grabbing breakfast – they’re lingering for the experience: the build‑your‑own bowls, the atmosphere, the little moments of surprise and generosity.”

Alongside the pop-up, Chobani will partner with Foodbank Victoria to donate meals to Australians experiencing food insecurity.

Every Thursday, Chobani will donate the equivalent of 15,000 meals to the charity, totalling 45,000 meals over the three-week stint.

Foodbank Victoria chief executive officer Dave McNamara said the team had been by their side for more than a decade.

“We love Chobani’s ingenuity and their ability to continuously seek out new opportunities to help us build resilient communities through food,” Mr McNamara said.

The cafe is open from 7.30am to 11.30am on weekdays and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays, or until sold out.

Across the three-week pop-up, visitors will be able to enjoy a rotating calendar of freebies and special offers:

– Mondays: Free tote bags for the first 300 customers

– Tuesdays: Free birthday backpacks for the first 150 customers

– Wednesdays: Free keyrings for the first 500 customers

– Thursdays: 15,000 meals donated to Foodbank Victoria

– Fridays: Free iced coffees or matcha for the first 150 customers

– Saturdays: Free full-size samples of Chobani’s Cookie Dough Flip (while stocks last)
